Scent Detection / Object Search

Scent discrimination for small and big noses

Object search is suitable for dogs of all ages — older dogs and dogs with disabilities also enjoy search work. It can easily be practised at home and does not depend on special terrain, particular people or good weather.

Most dogs love search work. It provides mental exercise without provoking problematic levels of arousal — on the contrary: the dog learns to focus and to stay concentrated on a task for longer. And all of this in cooperation with its human.

How we build it up

Ultimately, the training is built up just like that of any explosives or drug detection dog. In the hobby field, however, we mostly use everyday items, for example tea bags of defined varieties.

The dogs learn to search for specific scents or objects and to identify them among many others. This means that at home you can have your dog search for almost anything, from a tea bag to hand cream, and vary the objects so that it never gets boring.

For our courses we have opted for a method of scent identification because it offers the most possibilities and allows further training towards more advanced tasks. If you would like to train your dog for a specific field, or have your previous training reviewed neutrally and perhaps improved, we will be happy to help. We handle operational search dogs ourselves and have trained dogs in a wide range of search fields.

Experience and facilities

Our extensive practical experience in operational work — from police work to conservation detection dogs — ensures well-founded, professional training in our specially equipped facilities. We work individually with every team. You will be fascinated by what your dog can achieve with its nose — follow it into a world that remains almost completely hidden from us.

For every level of training

We offer object search for every level of training — from complete beginners to service dog level.
